Year-End Gaming Wrap-Up

My top 3 games this year:

Genshin Impact, by Hoyoverse (but you probably guessed that 😛)

Hungry Cat Picross, by Tuesday Quest

Sorcery School, by Pretty Simple

The same friend who got me into Genshin got me into Sorcery School, and it changed the way I view mobile games.

Mechanically, it's a simple card game, but it's so much more than that. There's a story that unfolds as you progress. You fight monsters, you gain abilities. I'd say more, but I don't want to spoil anything.

Archie and Cassie follow their quarry to the original wooden 11thC Chartreuse Priory. The big stone thing was some kind of echo of the 17thC building. They catch up with the chap who is using this as a backdoor to the Great Library, whom he's clearly working for, but he seems decent enough. They go in together to a very old and deep level, it's all very strange. They find some people who have been trapped here for years. Can they escape?

In the final session we really get our act together and bring down the hurt. After being pretty successful socially but largely ineffectual in fights, my sneaky rogue finally brings the hurt and takes down something meaty. All in a very enjoyable weekend

We sort out the time loop but then in dealing with the fallout, our priest gloriously faceplants of a balcony and is threatened with a coup de grace by the big bad so we take a rare campaign loss which means a temple is destroyed. But we have pointers to another and we go in search.

Another two days for the campaign we started in October with two new characters. I think there are 8 of us now. We fill in some background that my PC had already done but then go in search of trouble, helping a caravan and meeting a Dwarf Stand-Up. We get into a timeloop thing which was great fun.

Our rushed plan gets out of control when our perp calls in backup but we can identify her and there's a very mess fight with fire, shotguns and lots of bystander against a heavily armoured foe but we somehow avoid big injuries and cash in our first payday on this job. Just two more to go. It would help a lot if we had a hacker. Perhaps we can hire one. Someone who a shady but loyal ideally.

128. #MythicBastionland (#BastionlandPress)

This is my weekly group and in this first session we did chargen and most of the same Myth as the others. But this lot were more into socialising and investigating, partly because I put more effort into those parts of the game, which I intend to replicate with the other group. Crises will create more of that too. So far that's 7 more players who enjoy MB and I feel I could use some similar ideas for running something I write.

127. #MythicBastionland (#BastionlandPress)

I'm running this game for two groups now. This one's on a fortnightly basis. I'm using the same set-up for both, created using this handy tool: https://mythic.bastionland.tools/map. New players but we made PCs and sorted out a myth and it went very well. They were a bit combat heavy but that was probably on me not bringing the background into it enough.

Fortunately Archie and Cassie have with them the burning key that gives access to the Aethyr. Holding it causes a keyhole to appear. Turning the key it in makes the world twist at right angles and the door opens through to the homogenous grassland that is TEX. Emotions are directions here so they orient themselves to the hollowness that leads to the cliff over the void on the face of which sits an egg.
