I finally completed all the images I had in my head which were inspired by this year’s 2023 Folktale Week prompt words. I took a lot longer to do this challenge—I wanted to really let them sink in and percolate in my brain. They directly influenced the trajectory of the story in my adaptation of Little Red Riding Hood, and made it SO much stronger!!

I am so excited about progressing on this project. it’s going to be epic!

This moment is when Little Red discovers the spirit of her dead father, deep in the dark woods, where the three Fates have captured it and prevented his soul from transitioning to the afterlife. They’re using it as leverage against Little Red, so she’ll be forced to follow the path they’ve decreed as her destiny. And she’s fighting it.

It’s very complicated, but I’m incredibly stoked to make it happen. This has been a pet project of mine in the back of my head for a long time, and now I’m finally taking steps forward to making it real. It’s going to be a very long-term thing, and I’m sure I’ll lose my enthusiasm at points in the future, but I can picture the finished book in my head, so I’m gonna keep going. :)

Finished up my last image inspired by the 2023 Folktale Week word prompts for my book: “Found”.

This experience has really helped me shape my adaptation of Little Red. I’m so excited about writing now!

This moment happens when Little Red finds the captured spirit of her dead father, held by the three Fates as leverage against her so she'll follow the path they want.

It’s… complicated. 😜

But SO MUCH FUN to work on!

I wrote a new blog post about how I feel I'm writing "image to image", and how I'm okay with that.

This new image is what I created after being inspired by the prompt word "Sea" for 2023 Folktale Week. I am not able to do the prompts all in a single week, and I'm not doing them on Instagram anyway, so I don't feel like I'm missing out... hehe...

Wonderfully, the prompt words this year were directly influential on my adaptation/variation of Little Red Riding Hood, which I'm currently writing and which is the topic of the blog post on my website. This particular image is a part of the story where Little Red and her two Apprentice Woodchopper friends start to step out of their world and into something completely off the path.

I am having SO much fun doing these!!!

I got to draw all day, and put the world behind me. What bliss!!
I drew another illustration inspired by this year's 2023 Folktale Week word prompts: "Underground".

This is another part of my story when Little Red and her two Woodchopper-Apprentice friends are descending into the depths of the earth to rediscover the secret her father secreted away in the lining of her cloak.

I know--"Wh-What?" No, it doesn't make sense right now, but in my head is fanTAStic!!! ROFL!

I am loving doing this so much!!! I have so much more to do and I plan on sharing it each step of the way!! Fun fun fun!!!

Tonight's 2023 Folktale Week illustration is for the prompt word "Underground".

This is for the adaptation of Little Red Riding Hood that I'm creating, and I can't tell you how excited I am that this year's prompt words really inspired the initial trajectory of the story.

I'm having so much fun doing this. Seriously. I have SO much more to do for this massive project in my head and I am loving it!! Woohoo!
