Oh gods, not the Little People. Didn't you read #1Q84?
#Bookstodon #1q84
I just finished 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami. There were some things I genuinely liked about this novel. I liked the main characters Aomame and Tengo and their love story. I love Aomame, and I think personal trainers make great assassins. Aomame's childhood resonated with me because she was raised in a religious organization that is very controlling and even harmful to children, but they don't check off enough boxes to earn the cult label. I also love stories about how shortcuts through liminal spaces can cross through interdimensional rifts. However, I took some real offense at how childhood sexual abuse (CSA) was talked about. I felt it could have been left out entirely, and that there was a way to tell this story without the CSA. In some ways, the portrayal of the abuse felt like the writer's thinly veiled fantasies, and that's gross.

I'm disappointed in the writer's thinly veiled fantasies. I'm not sure I like this book anymore. Why must dirty old men ruin everything?

There is a whole chapter in #1Q84 about kicking people in the balls, and I love this novel even more now.
#bookstodon #internetarchive I'm currently reading #1Q84 by Haruki Murakami. After reading the first few chapters, I decided to give Sinfonietta by Leos Janacek a listen. I found a copy at https://archive.org/details/lp_bartok-concerto-for-orchestrajanacek-si_bela-bartok-leos-janacek-george-szell
Well, what do you know? Aomame, one of the main characters, listens to the exact same album later in the book.

Pink sunrise and morning moon. The moon was so bright last night!

Inspired maybe by #1Q84 ( Haruki Murakami) I lay in bed wondering what we'd all do if something happened to the moon ( if it spun out of control)

I think mainly though, what will happen, is it will rain today.

"There were two moons in the sky – a small moon and a large one. They were floating there side by side. The large one was the usual moon that she had always seen. It was nearly full, and yellow. But there was another moon right next to it. It had an unfamiliar shape. It was somewhat lopsided, and greenish, as though thinly covered with moss."

#VendrediLecture 🔖 Encore quelques centaines de pages de #1Q84, mon #HarukiMurakami du moment, en écoutant le luth de #ToyohikoSatoh.

Puis, ce sera 'Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and His Years of Pilgrimage' (2013), qui m'attend déjà en librairie…

Woken up by hungry Saturday cats 🐈

Made myself coffee and went back to bed with #1Q84 ( only 100 pages left) and it's two moons...
