In the '70s sitcom Sanford & Son, remember how Fred (Redd Foxx) would sometimes break into a song and wildly gesture with his arms and hands? Last week I learned that was a real song called If I Didn't Care by The Ink Spots. He even name checked them and lead singer Bill Kenny several times but I had no idea the references were real and no way to find out (no Wikipedia in those days). Five Red Herrings (1975), last and best of the superb BBC TV adaptations of Dorothy L. Sayers’ Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries starring Ian Carmichael (the definitive screen Lord Peter). Fine writing, great performances by the whole cast. Terrific.
