Eid Mubarak! Also happy Persian new year! Spring is here, just budding. Still too early for most flowers in NYC. Camera: Debonair
#toycamera. Film: Arista Edu Ultra 200 (same as Fomapan 200), D-76 development. Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. I like this film. I like its grains and tones; I did not need to do much editing if any after histogram stretching. If I were to bulk load BW film, I would do Kodak Double X and Fomapan, because they look great and bulk loading saves a lot of money (bulk loading Tri-X doesn't really save money).
Science in action -- I can use developing film to teach kids about the scientific method: last time I found a mysterious light leak affecting one side of the image. Hypothesis 1: my Debonair camera has a light leak, so I taped it up more. Hypothesis 2: actually the location of the light leak on landscape vs. portrait photos is inconsistent with a light leak in camera, so I think it might be a very small light leak in my Paterson tank. The slight light leak is only noticeable in very under-exposed regions where signal to noise ratio is low after histogram stretching. I made sure that the funnel clicked in place so it's not loose. I also flipped the reel before putting it onto the center column. What I observed: last time that light leak always occurs at the bottom of the vertical photos. This time it's still observed (though I fixed it digitally), but it's at the top. It means that it comes from Paterson tank light leak; it switched sides because I flipped the reel. And it's not because I didn't click the funnel in place previously. Hypothesis 3: I think it might be because of the overhead light, so next time I'll turn off the light.
