RUN FOR MORGAN: Emotional Gorseinon 10K set to honour little boy who touched a nation

The Gorseinon 10K and 2K Fun Run returns on April 12, raising vital funds for Morgan’s Army — the charity founded in memory of Morgan Ridler, who tragically died from cancer aged just three.

Morgan’s story moved thousands across Wales, with tributes pouring in from rugby stars, TV presenters and communities far beyond his hometown. His legacy now lives on through the charity set up by his family — supporting children with cancer and families facing unimaginable challenges.

And now, that legacy will take centre stage on the streets of Gorseinon.

Jessica crosses the finish line with a smile as crowds cheer on runners at the Gorseinon 10K.

More than 800 runners are expected to take part in this year’s event — but organisers say it’s about far more than a race.

“This event means everything to us,” said Morgan’s mum and charity founder Natalie Ridler.

“It’s about remembering Morgan and other children taken too soon… and showing families they are not alone.”

From emotional tributes to powerful moments of remembrance, the day promises to be one of the most moving community events of the year.

Funds raised will go directly towards Morgan’s Army’s work supporting families dealing with childhood cancer — providing practical, emotional and financial help — as well as helping Tŷ Hafan deliver vital care to children with life-limiting conditions.

The event itself has grown rapidly into a major date in the local calendar.

Alongside the 10K race, a 2K fun run will open the event up to families, children and all abilities — ensuring everyone can be part of something special.

A packed race village, live atmosphere and huge local turnout are all expected — turning the town into a sea of colour, noise and emotion.

Backed by headline sponsor Brisco Williams and supported by partners including Sinclair Group UK, the event has become a powerful show of what community spirit can achieve.

But at its core, one message stands above all.

Every step, every cheer and every finish line crossed is for Morgan — and for the families still facing the fight he never got the chance to finish.

The Gorseinon 10K & 2K Fun Run takes place on April 12 — with entries filling fast.

First 10k since my last race in September and first easy pace since July and not what I was expecting, pace down 2 min/km and hr up 20 bpm. Definitely a lot to improve on #running #10krun #corosrunning #runnersofmastodon #RunningCommunity

The best time to find out you've got the beginnings of a cold is certainly not a few hundred metres into a 10K run, when you suddenly find it difficult to breath.

I struggled to my finish in 53:47 in Grantchester this morning, stopping after 2K to do my inhaler. Afterwards, a guy said to me he'd been following me most of the way and I was really pushing it, which helped him get his PB. Different strokes for different folks!

Record-breaking Porthcawl 10K returns this Sunday with thousands set to race

Organised by Run 4 Wales and sponsored by Welsh broadband provider Ogi, the race promises to be the biggest and most vibrant edition yet.

Starting from the Eastern Promenade and finishing near Cosy Corner on the Esplanade, the 10K course offers runners a breathtaking tour of Porthcawl’s coastal gems. Participants will pass iconic locations including Rest Bay, Trecco Bay, Coney Bay, the Grand Pavilion, and the historic Porthcawl Lighthouse. The route has been carefully designed to minimise disruption to residents and businesses, with most road closures in place for only a short duration

Beyond the main race, the event features a full day of family-friendly activities. The Ogi Jogi Junior Races include a Toddler Dash, a Future Challengers Mile for young athletes, and a Family Fun Run. These events aim to inspire the next generation of runners and foster a community spirit that extends beyond the finish line.

Race Director Steve Brace, a double Olympic marathoner and Bridgend native, expressed excitement about the event’s growth:

“We’re really looking forward to returning to Porthcawl for the Brecon Carreg Porthcawl 10K. This will be our biggest event yet, and we expect a fantastic atmosphere around the course and at the finish line.”

Cllr Neelo Farr, Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Regeneration and Housing, echoed the sentiment, highlighting the event’s impact on local tourism:

“The Porthcawl 10K continues to grow year on year. It’s fantastic to see how wide-ranging this event is, with opportunities for people of all ages to get involved. It showcases Porthcawl as a high-quality tourism destination.”

To ensure a smooth race day, residents and visitors are advised to plan ahead. The Eastern Promenade will be closed from 5am on Saturday, 5 July, until 4pm on Sunday. Bus routes including the X2, 63, and Stagecoach 172 will be diverted. Attendees are encouraged to pre-book parking via the official event website, as drop-offs without a booking will not be permitted.

Finishers of the 10K will receive a commemorative medal and a vibrant yellow event t-shirt inspired by Porthcawl’s surfing culture. The medal is part of the Run 4 Wales 2025 10K Series collection, making it a coveted keepsake for participants

With light rain showers expected and breezy coastal winds, runners are advised to dress appropriately and prepare for changing conditions. Despite the forecast, the town is still buzzing with anticipation for what promises to be a memorable day of racing and community celebration.

Warrington 10k this morning 🔥🔥
A much better result than expected 👊👊 was hoping for a sub 60 minutes but to go sub 55 with the lack of training for the past 2 months, I’m well pleased with 54:23 #running #10krunning #10krun #10krace #adidasrunning #newbalancefuelcell #runnersofmastodon #therunningcommunity #oldguysrule
It’s always a pleasure to run my hometown and today was no exception. Wanted to keep in hr zone 2 for this 10k run but did allow to push towards aerobic threshold. Pace down than a couple of months ago so something to focus on in the future #sundayrun #10krun #easyrunning #adidasrunning #therunningcommunity #runnersofmastodon #oldguysrule
