By the doorway 玄関 are 3 of my local treasures. The dry wood that is suprisingly incredibly hard to split (this sort of tree should be easy, but it must have been sucked dry by an invasive species or insects years ago...) has such beautiful patterns and colorings once the bark is off. I usually only notice and think to set it somewhere for contemplations when I'm overwhelmed by the amount of work I should get done sawing, splitting, and stacking wood before the next rain or the next time we need more of the parking area... with trees and animals you have to treat as distractions most of your mystical sort of "Sense Of Wonder" moments or you'll never get anything done. But in spite of all that this little hunk of almost-split wood ended up on display where I can notice it every once in a while along with the cinnamon wood sculpture done my a nice art teacher. Sometimes I take him chunks of wood that seem too awesomely special to just be firewood, I wasn't sure if I was doing him any favors: it took him months to make a head out of a big hunk of Magnolia trunk. But I guess he appreciates it because he gave me this torso made from one of the chunks of cinnamon tree. In between is the record (and it's wonderful cover) of a local folk-punk band, NanBuShiki.. NanBuShiki (Southern Style, South Method,....) is more than a band, they are a festival. A chance discovery on my part, they are now a large part of my appreciation and enjoyment of South Kyushu.. I'm excited to think of going to their next big event (an annual event I do my best not to miss!) the Miyakonojyo HomeTown Night Market
#ふるさと夜市 。 This year's festival on July 19th and 20th it is also called Ge Ge Ge No GeiNouSai, the Geh Geh Geh Talents Festival?? I included an image of the event's poster in this album...It will be enlivening/invigoration to dance, sweat and talk here.
