Un lupo in libertà ha trasformato le strade di Daejeon, città sudcoreana di un milione e mezzo di abitanti, in un vero scenario di emergenza. L’animale, un maschio dal peso di 30 kg, nato in cattività due anni fa nel parco O-World, è riuscito a scavare sotto la recinzione del suo recinto e a fuggire nel cuore urbano, scatenando immediatamente paura e confusione.
Come riportato dal The Guardian, oltre 300 operatori, tra poliziotti, militari e vigili del fuoco, sono stati mobilitati per cercarlo. Le scuole della città sono rimaste chiuse e i cittadini sono stati invitati a limitare gli spostamenti e segnalare qualsiasi avvistamento. Droni con telecamere hanno perlustrato l’area, ma le ricerche sono state rallentate da un temporale, rendendo ancora più complicato localizzare l’animale. Un portavoce del parco O-World ha spiegato come sia stata scoperta la fuga: “Durante i controlli di routine abbiamo notato che uno dei lupi mancava all’appello. Le telecamere hanno mostrato che aveva scavato una buca sotto il recinto e da lì era uscito”.
Tra paura e precauzioni
Il panico è comprensibile, ma gli esperti sottolineano che l’animale, essendo nato in cattività e pesando circa 30 chili, difficilmente rappresenta un pericolo reale per le persone. In Italia, dove vivono circa 3.500 lupi allo stato libero, episodi di avvistamento nei centri abitati non sono rari e gli attacchi a persone sono praticamente inesistenti da secoli.
All’estero, invece, casi simili hanno destato più allarme: recentemente un lupo è entrato in un centro commerciale ad Amburgo, mordendo un passante prima di essere catturato e rilasciato in natura con un trasmettitore GPS. Al momento non si sa se il lupo di Daejeon sia già stato catturato o come verrà gestito quando sarà rintracciato, ma le autorità mantengono la città in massima allerta, pronti a intervenire per proteggere abitanti e animale.

A wolf in freedom has transformed the streets of Daejeon, a South Korean city of 1.5 million inhabitants, into a real emergency scene. The animal, a male weighing 30 kg, born in captivity two years ago at O-World Park, managed to dig under the enclosure fence and escape into the urban heart, immediately unleashing fear and confusion.

As reported by The Guardian, over 300 personnel, including police officers, military and firefighters, were mobilized to find it. Schools in the city remained closed and citizens were asked to limit their movements and report any sightings. Drones with cameras surveyed the area, but the search was slowed down by a thunderstorm, making it even more difficult to locate the animal. A spokesperson for O-World Park explained how the escape was discovered: “During routine checks we noticed that one of the wolves was missing. The cameras showed that it had dug a hole under the enclosure and from there it emerged.”

Amidst fear and precautions

Panic is understandable, but experts emphasize that the animal, being born in captivity and weighing approximately 30 kilograms, hardly poses a real threat to people. In Italy, where there are about 3,500 wolves living freely, sightings in urban areas are not uncommon and attacks on people have been practically nonexistent for centuries.

Abroad, however, similar cases have caused more alarm: recently a wolf entered a shopping center in Hamburg, biting a passerby before being captured and released into the wild with a GPS transmitter. At present, it is not known whether the wolf from Daejeon has already been captured or how it will be handled when it is found, but authorities are maintaining the city on maximum alert, ready to intervene to protect residents and the animal.
