C'est trés intéressant l'histoire du jeu d'échecs. Le fou, en Anglais, le bishop (l'évêque), c'était un éléphant au départ (« al-fīl » (الفيل), ce qui signifie « l’éléphant »). La relation n'est pas évidente.

L'origine du jeu fait l'objet de plusieurs hypothèses. Le jeu, dans sa forme primitive, est né en Asie entre le IIIe et le VIe siècle de notre ère. Le lieu précis est toujours discuté : Inde, Chine, ou Asie centrale (entre la Perse et l'Ouzbékistan). Arrivé en Perse sous le nom de Chatrang au VIe siècle, il est adopté par le monde musulman au Moyen-Orient et y connaît un grand développement qui prépare sa forme moderne. (wikipédia)

Chess study for the week of Feb 23, 2026: By Henri Rinck (1870 - 1952), published in "Schweizerische Schachzeitung" in 1922. Rinck was one of the most important and prolific early chess composers, publishing 1670 studies. He was buried with a copy of his ultimate study collection, "1414 fins de partie", under his arm.
